Here at Christopher Newport University, you can most certainly experience and feel that school spirit on a very regular basis, but rarely is it more present than during first semester of every year at Pomoco Stadium on Saturday afternoons.
I love the energy in the stands, says junior cheerleader Lauren Parkhurst. CNU games last season went into overtime, or even triple overtime. The fans were up on their feet screaming.
And why shouldnt our fans be screaming their lungs out on gameday? The CNU Captains have earned the USA South Conference Championship title in six of the past nine seasons, and Head Coach Matt Kelchner and his entire squad have consistently given reason to be proud to wear the blue and white.
Junior Bailey Ellis is not only pleased with the spirit, but the convenience factor as well.
Everyone gets excited and hyped for the game. [Our school spirit] shows that, even as a small school, we can still support our team and get into the game. And I love going to a school that has football in our own backyard.
Most of us will spend only four years at Christopher Newport University — and will feel as though its even shorter. With consideration to away games, that gives us only about 20 games in 4 seasons to attend as CNU students. Take the opportunity to get out there and cheer on your fellow captains because those opportunities are fewer than we realize. Go on, lets show the world how proud we are to be the fans in the stadium that make up CNUs school spirit.
