Find your voice
This story is featured in our election coverage. With elections quickly approaching, students at CNU need to realize the impact that their vote carries on Election Day. The 2008 election was one of the largest turnouts of youth ages 18-29 in voting history, something that we should all pride ourselves on. I remember how eager I was to cast my vote, and let my voice be heard during that election, and I believe this is something that we as a generation have since lost.
The Rock the Vote campaign works to educate the youth of today on their political power in our country. During election season, we can see it all over TV, as various celebrities endorse the freedom to vote. In 2008, there was a certain “wow factor” of a Presidential Election present, which is not the case for these midterm elections. And while this may be true, the importance is still there. The candidates that are running have the potential to greatly impact our governmental system.
If you think you are too busy, I assure you that you have the time to cast your vote. Submitting a ballot absentee takes about five minutes, so stop checking Facebook, and get voting! If you think you don’t know enough about the candidates, then get educated on the issues. These are the people that will be implementing changes for our futures, and if you don’t vote, then you give up your right to complain about it. There are tons of resources out there with information for each candidate, so this excuse holds no water. Voting is a private issue that bears a personal decision, and one that you do not have to voice openly.
I don’t care who you vote for, just vote! That is really all that matters. Find a candidate who you support, and get your voice out there.
