Nothing is more refreshing than a cup of fat-free soft-served frozen yogurt on a hot day at Christopher Newport. Where to go to get this amazing yogurt? Try Flo-Dlite, located off of Jefferson Ave. in the Jefferson Commons shopping center. Flo-Dlite opened during the last week of July and is owned by Young Im.

Im moved here from California. While there, he saw lots of healthy frozen yogurt shops, so he became inspired and brought one to Newport News.

“I wanted to give people a different option of dessert that is healthy, nonfat and affordable. Here you can get as much as you want and as many toppings as you want because you pay by the ounce. The most popular flavors are chocolate and cake batter,” explained Im.

When you walk into the store Im always happily greets customers and explains how the process to get the yogurt works. The atmosphere in Flo-Dlite is very upbeat and friendly. As soon as you walk in your eyes are drawn to all the different colors of pink and green, plus the unique furniture in the store.

Some of the different flavors at Flo-Dlite include original tart, peanut butter, chocolate, vanilla, fancy French vanilla, milk chocolate, New York cheesecake, strawberry, cookies and cream, cake batter, blueberry pomegranate, and many more. Their opening hours are 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Flo-Dlite is cheaper than other ice cream stores because you pay by the ounce, and the frozen yogurt is 39 cents per ounce. Students even receive 10 percent off the final price. You can find out about Flo-Dlite’s specials, sales and flavors of the week on Facebook and Twitter.

When first trying Flo-Dlite, it is hard to believe the delicious treat is actually healthy. It tasted just as good as regular ice cream. They had a wide range of delicious toppings ranging from gummy bears, sprinkles, chocolate chips, cereal and even whipped cream.

Freshman Rebecca Halsey thought that Flo-Dlite was amazing.

“I thought Flo-Dlite was really awesome. It tasted just like ice cream and I felt good about what I was eating because it is really healthy. I got vanilla yogurt with Oreos, M&M’s, chocolate chips, cookie dough bites and sprinkles. My favorite part was how you could mix and match different toppings. I will definitely go back again,” Halsey said.

The yogurt at Flo-Dlite contains proteins and probiotics, which are very healthy, unlike regular ice cream. Flo-Dlite is a worthwhile trip for anyone craving something sweet and delicious that is healthy and still available at a cheap price. Come to Flo-Dlite today and see what everyone is raving about and feel good about what you’re eating. You will not regret it!
