What’s happening in Williamsburg

Are you tired of the same old activities? Or do you just want a change of scenery?  You should take the short trip to Williamsburg and have a whole new experience doing simple every day activities. Everyone has heard of Colonial Williamsburg—and many have already been there at least once. However, you may not know about some hidden little treasures. Whether a mall, movie or restaurant, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Do you like movies but don’t like spending money on a ticket because you’re unsure if the money will be worth the movie you’re seeing? There is a place in Williamsburg that could change your mind about your moviegoing experience. The Movie Tavern on Richmond Road allows customers to pay five dollars to see currently running movies that other theaters would have you pay 10 dollars for.

The price isn’t the only thing that this theater has to offer. In addition to regular movie snacks like popcorn or nachos, there are some very interesting and delicious meals that are available for purchase. For example, have you ever heard of an ALT? That stands for an avocado, lettuce and tomato sandwich on pita bread. Not the everyday movie theater snack—but delicious nonetheless. And instead of regular stadium seating the moviegoer has a table or a bar with recliners. I can assure you a recliner is extremely comfortable to watch a feature film.

Just down the street you can find the Williamsburg Outlets, which offers great opportunities for savvy shoppers. Unlike Patrick Henry mall, you can enjoy different stores for just about anyone’s taste. Also you can enjoy the beautiful outdoors where there is almost always some type of musician playing. Also, the Williamsburg Pottery offers a variety of items not normally found at a traditional mall.

There are also a few restaurants in Williamsburg that are not available in Newport News. Red Hot and Blue, CiCi’s pizza (which opens on Feb. 28) and Five Guys and Firehouse Subs are great restaurant chains that are foreign to the Christopher Newport University community. The 25 miles to Williamsburg is well worth the great places waiting for you to walk through their doors.
