Letter to the Editor: Student Assembly working with administration on computers, printers, campus growth

by Jett Johnson, Senior

President, Student Assembly

Have the 24-hour room computers been slowing you down?! Has waiting in line in the library to print something out become unbearable?!

I met with Stephen Campbell, the Chief Information Officer for I.T. Services. We discussed I.T.’s plans for the future, where our technology is going, and I.T.’s ability to comfortably function with the growing number of on-campus residents. Mr. Campbell was extremely receptive to these topics. He is very confident that his department will be able to successfully grow alongside our growing campus life.

In this meeting we also discussed the 24-hour room’s computers in the Trible Library. The Student Assembly has heard a lot of feedback from students about the computers running at extremely slow speeds. Once again, Mr. Campbell listened intently to our feedback and he is currently in the process of looking into and fixing the problem. Students should expect to see change shortly!

Directly following this meeting, I met with Mr. Bob Midgette, the Senior Associate Vice-President for Auxiliary Services, and Mr. Bob Olson, the Executive Director of Auxiliary Operations. We discussed, once again, the growth happening around us all. Their department works day and night to maintain quality service to students, faculty and staff.

With a growing demand for time and space, Mr. Midgette and Mr. Olson, as well as everyone working under Auxiliary Services, are constantly thinking of how to make things easier and more efficient. We should see a change in operation regarding the mailroom during the back to school rush at the start of the semester, the Commons is expanding within the next year, and the process of purchasing textbooks will likely become much smoother in the coming semesters. Also, in bringing up the issue to Mr. Midgette, I discovered that he has just recently become well aware of the printer issues in the library and students should see change shortly.

If you ever have any questions or concerns about your college experience please direct them to your Student Assembly (StudentAssembly@cnu.edu). Also, please feel free to attend any of our general meetings on the first and third Mondays of every month in the Trible Library, room 208.

Thank you for you support.
