In one of the most exciting games of the season, the Captains field hockey team managed to overcome Wesley College 2-1 in double overtime. The team, which came into the game with a record of 18-0, was looking to continue its record-breaking win streak and earn a berth in the Capital Athletic Conference finals.
The Captains got off to a slow start when Wesley scored in the 26th minute. Wesley’s lead, however, did not last long as junior Belle Tunstall, the team leader in points with 18 goals and 11 assists, scored 11 seconds later. Even though they outshot the Wolverines 15-2, the Captains were unable to score again during regulation, and the game headed into overtime with a score of 1-1.
The Captains continued their aggressive play in the first overtime period, not allowing Wesley to get off a single shot and having ten attempts of their own. Despite this domination, the team wasn’t able to find the back of the goal during that period. Tunstall was finally able to break the stalemate at the start of the second overtime period, scoring her second goal of the game within the first 30 seconds.
