You have the Puppy Bowl, the Lingerie Bowl, and even the Snoop Bowl.
But for the 44th time, there is only one Super Bowl.
Super Bowl XLIV pitted an epic match-up of elite quarterbacks in the NFL: Drew Brees and Peyton Manning.
But, in the end, one question can sum up the Super Bowl.
Who Dat?
In the first franchise appearance by the New Orleans Saints, they have pulled off the dream of winning the Lombardi Trophy, defeating the Indianapolis Colts 31-17.
Drew Brees finished the game with 288 yards and two touchdowns, earning the MVP honors for the game.
The Colts came out of the gate fast with a Matt Stover field goal and a Peyton Manning to Pierre Garcon touchdown throw, putting them up 10-0.
New Orleans answered in the second quarter with just two Garrett Hartley field goals, putting the score at 10-6.
The Saints tried a very risky play to start the second half. They attempted an on-side kick and were successful in recovering the attempt.
This not only gave the Saints the ball back, but gave them a huge momentum swing.
Brees threw his first TD pass of the night after the half on a 16-yard toss to Pierre Thomas, giving the Saints a 13-10 edge.
LSU graduate and Colts running back Joseph Addai punched it in from 4-yards out to put the Colts up 17-13.
This would be the last time the Colts would put any points on the board in the 2009-2010 season, though.
Garrett Hartley added another field goal and Brees’s second touchdown came on a 2-yard touchdown pass to tight-end Jeremy Shockey.
The Saints then went for the two-point conversion, putting it at 24-17 Saints.
The nail in the coffin for the Colts came on a late drive by Manning where the Colts’ offense was clicking along as it has done many times before during the season and playoffs.
That was until Saints corner Tracy Porter, who ironically went to Indiana University, sat back on Reggie Wayne’s route, jumped the route and perfectly picked off Manning’s pass and took it 74 yards for a touchdown.
You could practically feel the air being let out of the Colts’ side of the stadium.
Both teams put up over 300 yards of total offense, with the majority of the Saints’ yardage coming through the air.
They only managed 55 yards combined from running backs Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush.
Sadly, this puts an end to the 2009-2010 NFL season.
Look for the NFL draft in April.
For the last time, this is the 13th Man, Billy Fellin, signing off.
